Alfonso Chen

Alfonso is an associate practicing in civil litigation and criminal defence keen on firmly protecting his clients’ legal interests and advocating for his clients. His practice areas include defamation, criminal defence (including theft and assault), contractual disputes, construction disputes, real estate litigation and general civil litigation.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, Alfonso completed his articles at Henderson & Lee. In 2014, he graduated with High Distinction from two Bachelor of Commerce programs, in Finance & Economics and in Management, from the University of Toronto (Rotman School of Management). In 2018, he obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of British Columbia (Allard School of Law), where he focused his studies on litigation and was awarded the Lawson Lundell LLP Entrance Scholarship. He first began working on legal files in 2015 as a student clinician at a legal clinic in Vancouver and then worked on civil and criminal hearings and trials as a temporary articled student in 2017. Alfonso frequently represents clients in the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the Provincial Court of British Columbia and administrative tribunals.

Alfonso is fluent in Mandarin and English. He also holds a DELF B1 certification in French.

Alfonso enjoys spending time with others to engage in meaningful work for the community. He is a trial supervising lawyer for the Law Students’ Legal Advice Program (LSLAP), a member of the National Advocacy Committee for the Arthritis Society, a committee member of the Small Grants Committee of the Oak Avenue Neighborhood Hub Society, a broad-based admissions essay reader for the University of British Columbia admissions team, an ambassador of the Museum of Surrey, and a volunteer for special fundraising events for the MS Society of Canada, the Arthritis Society, and other non-profit organizations.
