Court Closure:

  • Supreme Court of British Columbia

The notices posted by the Court on March 18, 2020 – Suspension of All Regular Court Operations – Civil and Family Matters and Suspension of All Regular Court Operations – Criminal Matters, rescinded the Court’s notice of March 13, 2020. This notice clarifies processes with respect to jury trials, and for filing and serving documents in civil and family matters that are not urgent. For more details click here.

  • Provincial Court of British Columbia

The Court will suspend regular court operations as of March 25, but urgent matters will proceed in “hub” courts. Some court locations have been closed. Find a Notice regarding affidavits in civil and family matters here. Find other COVID information here.

BC Tenants and Landlords: Negotiations during the COVID-19 pandemic

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a temporary halt on many evictions in BC. The provincial government has a $500 supplement available for certain tenants in need of that to pay part of their rent. However, this might not be enough for the full amount of rent. Disputes will undoubtedly arise through the next few months between tenants and landlords over their rights and responsibilities. Read More
